How to use MLB bullpen stats for DFS

MLB bullpen ERA is one of the most underutilized tools in DFS lineup construction. When a team faces a poor bullpen — ERA above 4.50, high BB/9, and multiple blown saves — hitters have a significantly better chance of producing late-game fantasy points even if the starting pitcher is cruising. A team with a 3-run lead in the 6th against a team with a 5.00 bullpen ERA is a live stacking opportunity.

For pitchers, the opposite applies. Starting pitchers facing lineups backed by elite bullpens are less valuable because the opposing team’s relievers will shut down any comeback attempt — reducing the game’s scoring potential in the later innings.
