Injury note. San Francisco's receiver room is thin: Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, Christian Kirk, Deebo Samuel Sr. and Demarcus Robinson are all out, and Mike Evans is questionable. Washington lists Stefon Diggs as questionable and is without Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jaylin Lane. Every number below assumes Evans and Diggs play, so check their status before you build.

Game type: Lopsided favorite, shootout

The 49ers are big favorites. The field will pile into 49ers MVPs and 49ers stacks, and play as little of the Commanders as possible.

How to build it: Lean 49ers at MVP, but the leverage is the Commanders side: a Commanders MVP or a heavy Commanders bring-back separates you when the game is closer than the spread. A high total rewards pass catchers on both sides and four-to-two builds.

What the slate shape says before you look at a single player

Our simulations put this game at 52.7 total points, with the 49ers at 30.8 and the Commanders at 21.9, a spread of about 9 points. That is a lopsided game on paper, and the field will build like it: 49ers MVPs, 49ers stacks, and as little of the Commanders as the salary allows.

Even so, do not build only one side. Our study of 163 showdown slates found the perfect lineup took players from both sides in almost every slate, with a three to three or four to two split accounting for the clear majority. Building entirely on one team is the single most common way to lose a showdown you had right.
