FedEx St. Jude Championship DFS Picks 2026: DraftKings and FanDuel Breakdown

The FedExCup Playoffs open at TPC Southwind with 69 golfers, a 20 million dollar purse and no 36 hole cut. Every golfer you roster plays four rounds, and the top 50 after Sunday advance to the BMW Championship. That no cut format changes more about how you build this week than anything on the scorecard.

Southwind is a Ron Prichard par 70 at 7,288 yards, and it is a positional test rather than a distance one. Landing areas average roughly 25 yards, the greens were regrassed to TifEagle Bermuda after the 2024 event and average about 4,500 square feet, and water sits off the tee far more often than at a typical Tour stop. Only two par 5s exist on the property, and close to one in three approach shots last year came from 150 to 175 yards.

Below is the full FTA Sims breakdown for DraftKings and FanDuel: golfer grades with EAT, PIVOT and FADE verdicts built on a price residual model rather than raw value, win and finish probabilities, the ownership overlays worth attacking, and four sample builds.

FedEx St. Jude Championship DFS Picks and Lineups: 2026

August 13 to 16, 2026 · TPC Southwind · Memphis · Par 70, 7,288 yards

The FedExCup Playoffs open at TPC Southwind with 69 golfers, a 20 million dollar purse, and no cut. Every golfer you roster plays four rounds. That single fact changes more about how you build this week than anything on the scorecard, because the usual reason to pay up in golf DFS is buying your way out of a missed cut, and this week there is no cut to miss. The top 50 after Sunday advance to the BMW Championship, so nobody in this field is coasting.

The Course: TPC Southwind

Southwind is a Ron Prichard par 70 that has hosted Tour golf in Memphis since 1989, and it is a positional test rather than a distance one. Landing areas average roughly 25 yards, the doglegs bend both directions, and water sits off the tee far more often than at a typical stop, which is why Southwind reliably posts one of the highest balls-in-water rates on Tour. The greens were regrassed to TifEagle Bermuda after the 2024 event and average about 4,500 square feet, among the smallest targets golfers see all season.

There are only two par 5s, both reachable, and they are the only holes on the property that average better than a tenth under par. Ten holes measure between 400 and 500 yards, and close to one in three approach shots last year came from 150 to 175 yards. That is the shot that decides this tournament: a mid-iron into a small, firm green with a penalty on one side. Prioritize approach play and bogey avoidance over raw distance.

The scoring has been remarkably consistent. Justin Rose won at 16 under last year in a playoff over J.J. Spaun, Hideki Matsuyama won at 17 under in 2024, and Lucas Glover took 2023 at 15 under. Three of the last four editions went to a playoff, so the winning number is predictable even when the winner is not.

How We Graded This Week

Our usual grade leans on make-cut probability. With no cut, every golfer in the field sits at 100 percent, so that input is dead weight and we rebuilt the model around it.

The replacement measures each golfer against what his own salary implies. We fit projection, ceiling, floor and projected ownership against price across the whole field, then grade on the gap between a golfer and his price curve. The reason matters: in golf, points per dollar is almost a pure inverse function of salary, so a plain value score just hands you the cheapest names on the board and calls it analysis. Grading on the gap instead means a 6,300 dollar golfer and a 13,500 dollar golfer can both earn a green light on their own merits.

  • EAT. The best combination of projection, floor and price once we account for how heavily owned he already is.
  • PIVOT. Ceiling above what his salary implies while ownership sits below it. This is where tournament leverage lives.
  • FADE. Owned more than his price warrants with no projection edge behind it.
  • FLAT. Priced about right, no edge either direction. In a 69 man no-cut field these are all playable, they just are not arguments.

"Own for price" below is the ownership a golfer at that salary typically draws. "Pts vs price" is his projection minus what his salary implies. Positive is underpriced.

Notice how much of that list sits between 6,100 and 6,900 dollars. That is the no-cut effect doing exactly what it should. In a normal week a 6,300 dollar golfer is a coin flip on playing 36 holes or 72. This week he is guaranteed four rounds, so the cheap end of the board carries far less risk than its price suggests and you can afford the studs above it.

The Chalk Is Correct, and That Is the Hard Part

Justin Thomas is the biggest overlay in the field and we are still playing him. At 8,100 on DraftKings he is drawing 25.6 percent ownership against the 10.4 percent a golfer at that price normally sees. That is roughly fifteen points of ownership beyond his salary, the largest gap on the board. He also carries the highest ceiling relative to price of any golfer in the field. When the most popular play is also the most underpriced play, fading him is not contrarian, it is just wrong.

The same logic covers Scottie Scheffler. He is 23.5 percent owned on DraftKings and 41.1 percent on FanDuel, where his fit is only 20.3 percent, and he still projects +3.45 points above his price curve there. A 76.7 percent top 20 probability is the highest in the field by a wide margin. Both of these are uncomfortable rosters at that ownership and both are correct.

PIVOT: Where the Leverage Actually Is

There is less leverage available this week than usual. Projected ownership tracks projections almost perfectly in this field, correlating at 0.74 on DraftKings and 0.74 on FanDuel. In plain terms, the crowd is priced correctly on nearly everyone, so there are only 6 genuine pivots on DraftKings and 6 on FanDuel. Manufacturing leverage where none exists is how you lose a no-cut tournament.

The Same Golfer, Two Different Plays

The two sites price this field differently enough that several golfers flip grades between them, and that is worth more than any single pick. Rory McIlroy is 13.1 percent owned on DraftKings at 11,500 against a 17.8 percent fit, which is a mild underlay on a golfer the model already has below his price curve. On FanDuel he is 16.4 percent owned against a 17.8 percent fit, a much bigger underlay, and that is enough to make him a pivot there rather than a pass.

Cameron Young runs the other way. On DraftKings he is 17.9 percent owned against a 14.4 percent fit with essentially no projection edge, which is our definition of a fade. On FanDuel he is 14.6 percent against 14.4 percent, an underlay, and grades as a pivot. If you play both sites, do not copy your DraftKings core across.

FanDuel produced only 6 fades, for the same reason the pivot list is short: its ownership projections and its point projections barely disagree.

Course History Versus the Model

Hideki Matsuyama owns the best record at Southwind of anyone teeing off this week. He won here in 2024, lost a playoff in 2021, and has cashed inside the top 20 in four of five visits. The model is lukewarm: -0.66 points against his price at 9,000 with 11.3 percent ownership against a 12.8 percent fit. That is not a fade, it is a FLAT, and course history is a perfectly reasonable tiebreaker on a golfer the numbers are neutral on.

Justin Rose is the trap, and it is the opposite trap from the one you expect. The defending champion sits at 8,000 dollars with only 5.7 percent ownership against a 10.1 percent fit, which reads like a leverage play on a golfer who won this tournament twelve months ago. But he projects -3.32 points against his price and his ceiling is -4.69, the weakest in that salary range. The field has already faded him, and low ownership on a golfer the model dislikes is not leverage. It is agreement.

Lineups

Cash builds are the straight maximum projection lineup at the salary cap. Tournament builds are the same solver under a cumulative ownership ceiling, set to 60 percent on DraftKings and 75 percent on FanDuel. Those are not round numbers picked in advance: we buy as much ownership differentiation as three percent of projection can pay for, and the two sites have differently shaped projection curves, so they land in different places. The unconstrained optimum already sits near 99 percent cumulative ownership on DraftKings, which is why a fixed cap would have done nothing at all.

How To Play the No-Cut Format

  • Stop paying the safety premium. The reason studs carry a floor in golf DFS is cut insurance, and there is no cut here. Spend up for ceiling, not for certainty.
  • Punt tier golfers are genuinely safer this week. A bad Thursday does not end anyone's tournament, so a 6,200 dollar golfer has four rounds to make up ground.
  • Bogey avoidance beats birdie volume. Only two par 5s and water everywhere means the winning score comes from clean cards, not from going low.
  • Watch the draw, not the wave. This is a single-tee start in twosomes from 7:10 AM to 1:05 PM, so there is no morning and afternoon split to leverage. Weather swings hit both halves of the field.
  • Late swap matters less than usual. With no Friday cut, your Sunday exposure is set on Thursday.
